Roadtrips – Tips For Packing Minimal + The One Thing To Always Bring

I have always been one to overpack. Like enough outfits to double my trips and millions of pairs of undy’s because WHAT IF?! Without fail I don’t need even half of the things I pack and if one of my panic ideas happened, washing machines still exist on vacation.

This road trip to Cali I not only want to pack light, I need to pack light. Tahlya and I are tagging along with my family and we are all squeezing our luggage into the car.  Too much stuff stresses me out, I am always left feeling messy and out of control. I think that is why simplicity appeals to me so much. And let’s be honest, the last thing you need on vacation is stress.

So, I got to thinking on how I could pack as light/minimal as possible, and because I am who I am, I made lists. No worries, I am going to provide you with a guide so you don’t have to waste as much paper as I did. I hope this is helpful, let me know what tips you have for staying simple on vacation and wish my luck going to TWO amusement parks with a toddler in a matter of days.

Clothing –

Count how many days you’ll be gone and then minus three. Pack this many outfits (not including shoes). The day you leave you’ll have the outfit you’re wearing and for the remaining two days, just mix and match what you’ve already worn! Nearly all of the clothes and shoes I brought with on this trip were from Thredup, deals on deals on deals here y’all! As for shoes, pack one pair. With you pair you wear on the road that leaves you with two for the trip. Keep in mind the activities you’ll be doing while you’re gone and decide on the best two pairs of shoes for that.

Luggage –

I packed for a week long trip for both Tahlya and I in one duffle bag, find a good one and hold on to it. For some baby needs and makeup, I kept them packed up in my Newlie bag and then it became our diaper bag / purse for the whole trip. This thing will be a lifesaver in the amusement parks, I think anyone needs it, mama or not! The insulated pocket is perfect for keeping water cold, there is so much room, so many pockets, and it can be worn as a backpack! Multi use at its finest. (Click here for 10% off your purchase!)

Most Importantly –

No matter where you’re heading, bring a sweater because the car ride can get cold or leave you wanting to cuddle up! Plus, even the warmest places can have chilly nights. Am I right? Yes, yes I am. You want something cute and versatile, and I love a good oversized sweater. This green one from Sammy Dress is my new fav and it’s on sale right now! (Like nearly 50% off, so hurry and snatch it up before it’s gone!)
